It is Stewart's opinion that

  1. files posted at this website for public viewing should not display communications or information which a relative requests be kept private. Incredibly, whatever information is posted on Internet can be accessed by ANYONE anywhere in the world.
  2. password holders should not alter or delete, etc. a file at this website without the permission of the creator of that file (anyone can create unshared Internet sites and post on them almost anything);
  3. each file at this website should display the author's name or pen name and an email address at which he may be contacted.

Keeping hard drive or floppy disk copies of files you post on Internet helps protect them from accidental loss, censorship, etc.

If you have access to an Internet-connected computer at home or at public libraries, schools, etc., you may use the Tripod editor to create files "on line".

If an authorization box appears,

  1. type tillet into the user ID box;
  2. type the password into the password box;
  3. press ENTER.

To upload files, etc. to the directory of this web site, open a drop-down menu by clicking on the arrow; then select UPLOAD files.

To edit a file listed on the File Manager web page, click on EDIT after the name of the file, in the file list.

While editing a file, divide text into paragraphs by typing symbols like <P> at the end of each paragraph. Such symbols are called HTML codes or tags, and are normally invisible when viewing a webpage.

The HTML codes of any webpage become visible if you press VIEW in the menu bar at the top of the Netscape browser, then press PAGE SOURCE. You can copy and use the same HTML codes you see on other webpages to create most of the same effects on your own webpages.

Some useful examples of HTML codes are:

  1. To start a new line, you can use the <BR> tag. To start a new paragraph, which creates more space between lines than a line break, use the <P> tag.
  2. Create a line separating the sections of your page as they appear in your browser by using the <HR> tag. To get a thicker line, try changing the size attribute as follows:<HR SIZE=10>

Most of what you need to know to create Tripod, etc. web pages can be learned by exploring the Tripod website.

To use "Frontpage Express" (which came with my version of Windows 95) to edit an html document which you have saved on your computer, open the document, then click on EDIT in the bar at the top of your screen to see a drop down menu and select PAGE to open Frontpage Express, which allows you to edit the file. Then, if you want to see and edit the HTML codes in that file, click on VIEW in the Frontpage Express bar at the top of your sceen and select HTML. When you save documents, "Frontpage Express" creates or corrects some html tags for you.

Correct html tags instruct computers how to display webpages and helps them load webpages faster. I edit the HTML produced by FrontPage Express because software programs do not always produce the best html tags. I do not use some html editors because the html tags they create seem over complicated.

HTML documents can also be produced by using Notepad, Wordpad, or the DOS editor .

How do I build a homepage?

Once I've build a homepage, how do I edit it?

To edit your Tripod homepage, you may use two options: making the adjustments online, or editing your document on your own desktop using your own HTML editor.

To modify your page online, simply go to the Tripod Housekeeper (http://homepager.tripod.com/) and select "homepage housekeeper." Even if you didn't create your page using the Tripod Homepage Builder, you will be fully able to use the Custom Builder to edit and adjust to your heart's content.

To modify offline, simply make the adjustments to your document using your editor of choice, and upload the new document to your Tripod storage area.

If you've made changes to your page and the document does not reflect them in the "View this page" option, try hitting "reload" to renew your document's cache.
